Missions FACTS

WHO IS A MISSIONARY

A missionary is sent out by the Local New Testament  church to reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Gospel is made up of three parts: Death, Burial, & Resurrection of Jesus Christ. God commanded the church in Matthew 28:18-20 to do three things. (1) Preach The Gospel; (2) Baptize them; (3) Teach them all things.

We call this The Great Commission. We are called of God to spread the good news all around the world. The people at Heritage Baptist Church do everything they can to reach out to the community of Arlington, Texas. But Jesus Christ said in Acts 1:8 to be witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth.  Our Jerusalem is Arlington, Texas. Our Judea is the state of Texas. Our Samaria is the United States. And of course our uttermost parts of the earth, is obviously the world.

A missionary is anyone who will go out the church doors to go and tell other people about Jesus Christ. A missionary is not just the man that goes to Africa and the woman that goes to Mexico. If can be a person walking across the street and sharing the gospel in your own neighborhood. Question: Who is a missionary? Answer: Your are a missionary? HELP US TO DO THE JOB WHICH GOD HAS COMMANDED US TO DO.

OUR MISSIONS GIVING GOAL

Last year Heritage Baptist Church gave $110,000 to missions. This went to both foreign and home missions. All this was given over and above our regular tithes and offerings. God is using us in a mighty way to reach around the world through missions giving. This year our goal will be increased by Faith...can you do your part.

Year 2006 Missions Offering Goal $120,000

MISSIONARY TERMINOLOGY

Deputation: A missionary couple presents themselves and their call to churches of like faith in order to be incorporated into the church's mission program. The request is to be supported financially and prayerfully by the church.

Furlough: A period of time given for a missionary family to report to their supporting churches, to recuperate in health, get necessary medical attention, and to renew necessary support levels for their particular field.

Support: Each missionary is required to gain both prayer and financial support before leaving for the field. There are a minimum monthly financial support levels which must be reached before a family leaves for the field. Each country is different and requires a different amount to adequately accomplish their task.

Passage: Distinct from monthly financial support. Passage refers to the necessary finances needed to cover airline tickets, shipping equipment, and getting settled in a house on the field. Passage covers initial finances in order to leave for a field of service.

Indigenous: Used in a missions context to indicate the nature of the churches established. They are planted, to grow, and to thrive naturally in a particular culture or environment. It includes the concepts of self-governing, self-supporting, and self-propagating.

WHAT IS FAITH PROMISE MISSIONS GIVING

The Faith Promise method of giving is free-will offering collected weekly to provide finances for our world wide & home based missions. Faith Promise Offering is first a promise to God, second it is an act of faith--"For to their power, I bear record, ye and beyond their power, they were willing of themselves." II Corinthians 8:3 Thirdly, it is a Free-Will Offering, and fourth it is a promise for a year. Just look up II Corinthians 8:10.

It is simply trusting and believing God to supply the amount He impresses you to promise.
