Church History

In 1989 the Bethel Baptist Church, located in Fort Worth, Texas, moved to Arlington, Texas. Because there was already a Bethel Baptist Church in Arlington, the church was renamed The Heritage Baptist Church of Arlington. The property on Parliament Dr. was purchased in 1990 and the church was relocated there. The church has grown tremendously since coming to Arlington, not just in number, but also in spiritual strength.

For the first few months in Arlington the church met in an upper room of an office building, with just forty folding chairs and a Casio keyboard. The pastor and church family never stopped praying for a new location. God led the pastor to a building on Parliament Drive in Southwest Arlington.

After enquiring about the building, the pastor found it was almost impossible to locate the owner because the building was tied up in court. The pastor was told this information would not be available until all the cases had been heard and decided on.

The church family started praying harder. One night on visitation the pastor and one of his men were knocking doors over by the office building when it started to rain. They both sought shelter under a covered porch. A man came to the door and started chatting with the pastor and the other layman. After a few minutes of conversation, the man suggested that he knew of a church building in Southwest Arlington that might suit them. After discovering that Bro. Newcomb and this gentleman were talking about the same property, Bro. Newcomb replied that he could not find out the owner or a phone number. The gentleman said "just a moment." He returned a few minutes later with a name and phone number of the property owner of 5100 Parliament Drive.  The man on whose porch the pastor had taken refuge had been the treasurer of a church that had once leased the building.

After seeing the Lord work, the church moved forward and bought the property and now Heritage Baptist Church has a membership roll of over 600 members. Our God is good!!!
